In celebration of National Surveyors Week, MCE is spotlighting employees from its survey department who stood out this month.

Several members of the MCE survey department attended and participated in the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors 2026 Spring Conference. Held March 5 and 6 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers, this marked the first time the event has been hosted in Arkansas since 1984.

Paul Walla, PS, received the 2026 Distinguished Professional Surveyor award at the ASPS Excellence in Surveying Awards held during the conference. Walla has been a valued member of the McClelland team since joining in 2011 and brings nearly 40 years of experience.

He hopes to see more young people take an interest in surveying and plans to remain active in the profession while encouraging the next generation of surveyors. Walla earned this award through his dedication, leadership, and mentoring, exemplifying excellence in surveying through his career and commitment to advancement.

Attendees heard presentations on the implementation of artificial intelligence, the history of public land surveys, professional surveyor license reform, and other topics.

Among the presenters was one of MCE’s newest employees. Morgan Taunton, SI, presented his senior practicum from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where he recently graduated. Taunton joined MCE in December 2025 and quickly earned certification as a survey intern.

Additional attendees included Fayetteville-based Doug Shambarger, PS; Justin Taffner, PS; and David Buff, PS; as well as Little Rock-based Will Wingfield, PS; Charlie Dunn, SI; and Anthony Anderson, SI.

Survey is a backbone of civil engineering, and we are honored to have an amazing team supporting our projects.
